Overview
FireClear is a collection of maps for the residents of the City of Laguna Beach & the City of Irvine to prepare for a wildfire evacuation. These maps are designed to develop a pre-evacuation campaign that would improve residential information and planning for wildfires. Additionally, these maps assist residents and users with more accurate cognitive mapping and path-knowledge in the case of an emergency.
For the Laguna Beach campaign, three macro maps, and twenty micro maps were developed to be displayed publicly, accessed online, and distributed in evacuation plan brochures to the residence. This project is endorsed by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, City of Aliso Viejo, Laguna Beach Emergency Management, and the Design Network for Emergency Management. Internationally recognized at the 2019 Visualizing Knowledge conference at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland.
This project was completed under the advisory of Professor Claudine Jaenichen.
